I've been working as VMS consultant
(mostly unpaid!) and system administrator for over 20 years now. Starting
in 1989 with VMS 5.1 (as a very interested user) I soon was feeling enthusiastic
for this OS. I started gathering experience with UCX (those were the days!)
and DECnet on a VAX 6410/MicroVAX 3800 cluster. In 1993 we switched to Alpha
(a DEC7610 AXP/VAX 4400 mixed cluster as a start) and I was starting to
migrate
software and tools to the new Alpha platform. An additional Alphaserver 2100
5/250 joined the cluster in 1995, finally the old AXP was replaced by
an Alphaserver
2000. Nevertheless the VAX 4400 stayed in the cluster as a "last VAX
resort". We changed the TCP stack to Multinet in the late 90ies. On
my new Alphaserver I'm running TCPIP 5.3 at
the moment.
I'm a DECUS Germany member (of course!) and running my own MicroVAX3300 at home (OpenVMS7.2 at the moment) using a Hobbyist licence. I maintain an account at EISNER:: as well.
